Andrew Somerville
Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy
Before studying counselling, Andrew has worked as a community support worker with adults with intellectual disability and also in the area of student wellbeing in Technological University Dublin.
Andrew’s approach to counselling is person-centred integrative. It is rooted in the person-centred approach to psychotherapy which prizes the client and considers the client to be the expert of their story.
Andrew believes that prioritising and continuing to nurture the therapeutic relationship with the client is fundamental for therapy success, with much of the healing, insights and awareness; emerging from the real relationship between himself and the client. This relationship takes place in a therapeutic space that is safe, respectful, collaborative and creative.
Andrew draws on aspects of CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy) in reflecting back aspects of the client’s thinking patterns and behaviours, which can often be quite rigid; to consider what emerges in the therapeutic space.
Andrew works in general counselling but is particularly interested in supporting people in the areas of mental health, addiction, anxiety, personal development, stress, relationships, spirituality, grief and bereavement and work related issues.
Andrew is available for both face to face and online counselling.
